GROUNDNUT CROP CONDITION

REPORT ON GROUNDNUT CROP CONDITION DURING KHARIF 2008

 Normal Area  : 38,992 Ha.

Area covered   : 36,396 Ha.

No .of mandals covered : 26

Variety :   JL-24

 Condition of the Crop:

At present the crop is at harvesting stage Sowings were completed intime during May & 1st week of June.  Dry spells prevailed during June & July helped for normal growth in late sown crop in some parts.

However excess rainfall during August 2008 resulted in excessive vegetative growth of the crop.  During September 2008 also heavy rains occurred during maturity and pod filling stages.  Crop damages due to germination in pods due to inundation occurred in some areas.  Crop is now in harvesting stage.

Pests and Diseases noticed:

Tikka leaf spot occurred during last stage of the crop. How ever no damage is reported due to the disease.Leaf eating cater Pillers —Spodoptera and Heliothis are not observed.

 Yield estimates:As JL 24 variety is continuously cultivated for the past 25 years small ill filled and single seeded pods are resulted.  Dry spells during June month affected peg penetration in early sown crop. Pod filling affected due to heavy rains.  7-10 pods are only observed per plant.  900-950 Kgs yield is expected per hectare which is more than normal.
